THE FIELD NOTES · UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Before you import,
check the small things.

A practical checklist for preparing new, simple products from a supplier CSV.

1. Keep an untouched original

Work on a copy. A spreadsheet can turn a SKU such as 00124 into 124 or interpret a long barcode as a number. FeedNeat treats cells as strings, so identifiers retain their leading zeros.

2. Decide whether these are new products

This tool prepares one new product per row. Repeated handles can represent legitimate variants or additional image rows, so we block them instead of guessing how to merge them. Use a workflow designed for variants or updates when you need those features.

3. Map deliberately

Match the product name to Title, your item code to SKU and your selling price to Price. Only mapped fields are exported. Check the excluded-column notice before downloading, especially if your source contains inventory, descriptions or images.

4. Resolve number ambiguity

A price such as 1,299 could mean different things across locales. Choose the intended value yourself. This beta accepts unsigned decimal prices with up to two decimal places, without currency symbols or thousands separators.

5. Review changes and warnings

Whitespace cleanup and generated handles appear in the change log. Missing prices and duplicate SKUs deserve attention even when they do not block export. Formula-like values are preserved and flagged; avoid opening untrusted CSVs in a spreadsheet application.

6. Test a small draft import

Exports use draft status and unpublished availability. Test a few new products first, inspect the store’s import preview and verify resulting product details before importing a large catalog. Do not use this tool to overwrite existing products.

Store-specific behavior can change. Consult the official Shopify CSV reference for current field dependencies. FeedNeat is independent of Shopify and checks a limited subset of its format.
