Common Shopify CSV import errors and how to avoid them
Shopify’s CSV reference lists several situations that cause an import to fail or to change products unexpectedly. Some apply to every file. Others only appear when a file contains variants, images or updates, which this tool deliberately leaves out.

Variant fields without option columns
Fields that belong to a variant, such as SKU or weight, also need Option1 name and value. For updates, omitting them can delete existing variants and create a default one. FeedNeat writes the default option pair (Title / Default Title) on every row of its new-product export.
Barcode and Barcodes in the same file
Shopify’s reference says a file cannot contain both a Barcode and a Barcodes column. FeedNeat maps barcodes to a single field. If you combine its export with another file, keep only one barcode column.
Partial packed-product dimensions
Length, width, height and unit must all be filled or all be empty. Partial values cause that product to be skipped. FeedNeat does not export dimensions, so add them in a separate step if you need them.
Missing SKUs and image URLs
A blank SKU causes an error when the store uses a custom fulfillment service, so map an SKU for every row in that case. Image columns need public HTTPS URLs that still resolve. Images are not part of this workflow.
Handles that already exist in your store
When a row’s handle matches an existing product, Shopify skips that row unless you select the option to overwrite products with matching handles. With overwrite selected, blank cells can replace existing values. FeedNeat cannot see your store and is meant for new products, so leave overwrite unselected and treat any skipped row as a warning to investigate.
Worked example
New handle → new draft product Handle already in store, overwrite off → row skipped Handle already in store, overwrite on → existing product updated; blank cells may clear data
